Peter Bayer, CEO of Racing Bulls, recently revealed the involvement of Prince Bernhard in organizing the replacement of Isack Hadjar’s damaged Grand Prix of the Netherlands trophy. Hadjar achieved his first Formula 1 podium at Zandvoort last week, finishing third behind McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. Unfortunately, during the team celebration, he accidentally broke the handmade trophy. As a result, Hadjar was given a replacement trophy ahead of the Italian Grand Prix. Bayer shared some behind-the-scenes information with Sky Sports F1 Germany about how the replacement trophy came about, with the influence of Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands. “Isack placed the trophy on the ground, and I told him, ‘Isack, pick that up, because if everyone starts running, the trophy will break.’ So he picked it up, put it back down, and… unfortunately, yes, the trophy broke,” explained Bayer. “But the organizers – Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, who is one of the event hosts in the Netherlands – immediately got in touch and said, ‘We will help you.’ This morning, we actually received the replacement trophy.” “The two original trophies are safely stored in our operational office, and he will take them back home today. A nice ending.” Bayer also discussed the significance of Hadjar’s podium finish for the team as a whole. “You can see it here – pure emotion and joy on the faces of all the drivers and team members as they celebrate third place. For us as a team, our last podium was in 2021 in Baku. This is not an everyday occurrence for us, and there may be a bit of luck involved – ‘the luck of the brave,’ so to speak,” added Bayer. “But honestly, I only fully realized it afterwards when Jean Todt called me and said that he was actually jumping up and down in his living room because we managed to hold off Charles Leclerc and George Russell, and at the same time even kept up with Max.
