Konawe – AS (26), a man in Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi, heartlessly abused his fiancée with the initials IU (25). The abuse carried out by AS to his future wife, by hitting and throwing her.

Unaaha Police Chief, Ipda Edy Rambulangi, said that the crime of abuse was motivated by jealousy towards his fiancee, who was suspected of cheating. “The motive for the abuse is jealousy. From there the abuse occurred,” said Ipda Edy, when confirmed on Tuesday, December 26, 2023.

He explained that the act of violence was captured by a surveillance camera (CCTV) which showed the victim and the perpetrator initially just sitting casually at a car wash. However, not long after, the perpetrator then hit the victim’s left thigh and ear using his hand. “The act of abuse was captured on camera. They were initially chatting and then the assault occurred,” he said.

Edy revealed that the victim, who was abused, tried to rush away and defend herself by hitting back. However, the perpetrator, who was increasingly angry, then dragged and threw the victim to the ground and then hit her again using his hand. Residents who were at the scene immediately intervened to stop the commotion. “The victim tried to fight back but was hit again until she fell. Fortunately, the residents immediately intervened,” he said.

Edy revealed that the act of violence was then reported by the victim to the police. In the report, the act of violence occurred at a car wash in Tumpas Village, Unaaha District. “A police report has been made regarding the violence. The scene is at the car wash,” explained Ipda Edy.

In the report, the victim and the perpetrator initially only discussed the clothing to be worn for the engagement process. But not long after, they chatted, the victim suddenly received a call from someone. The victim at that time distanced herself from the perpetrator when she received the call, making the perpetrator suspect that the victim was talking to her lover. “Initially they were only discussing the preparations for their wedding. But at that time, the victim received a phone call and distanced herself, so the perpetrator became jealous. The results of the initial investigation indicated that the victim was answering a call from a man,” he said.

The police, said Edy, had carried out mediation after receiving the report from the victim. However, the mediation was rejected and the victim requested that the perpetrator or her future husband be immediately arrested. “The report was received and we tried mediating first. But there was no resolution. So, we immediately arrested the perpetrator last Saturday,” he said.

Currently, said Edy, the perpetrator has been detained and questioned. Furthermore, Edy admitted that they would try the mediation route again if both parties wanted to agree to reconcile. But, if it’s still rejected, then they will take the legal route.
